Muy Medio - La Loma

La Loma
316 Massachusetts Ave. NE

Another Capitol Hill Spanish Restaurant serving food that is less than desireable. La Loma translates as the hill and the location is great, Massachuetts Ave between Union Station and Staton Park. A favorite patio restaurant of hillers, sippin margarittas while socializing and people watching. While the food is average at best, I must admit I have found enjoyment drinking on the patio after weekend flag football games on the mall. The alcohol tends to alter the taste buds creating the illusion of decent mexician dishes. A good place to drink with friends and snack on chips but do not expect una comida buena.

VĂ³mito La Plaza

La Plaza

629 Pennsylvania Ave, SE Washington, DC

If you enjoy Chinese style carrots, broccoli, squash, and green beans to accompany grilled onions and peppers in a vegetable fajita then maybe La Plaza is for you. I, on the contrary, do not. Naturally, the Washington Post gave La Plaza the kiss of death editors pick. That should have been a red flag, but a 15% off coupon enticed me enough to overlook the obvious foreboding clues and suggest to my girlfriend that we satisfy her Mexican craving at La Plaza. The offensive fajita paired with Shannon’s black beans out of a can wrapped in a flour tortilla covered with half melted cheese lead me to give this restaurant the 2 finger Jane Fonda bulimia salute. Don’t waste your dinero y tiempo. If you want some tasty Mexican food, try the Tortilla Coast on First Street.
